associated of gold baron, W.S. Stratton. McKinnie, himself, became wealthy
from his investments in Cripple Creek Gold District properties.
Frank
G. Peck as secretary. Peck began his mining investment career
in Leadville, and after moving to Colorado Springs and investing the Cripple
Creek District, he, too, became one of Cripple Creek's gold barons.
After
the Black Diamond Mining Company, on Battle Mountain, was absorbed by The
Portland Gold Mining Company, both McKinnie and Peck became significant
shareholders; and, later, peck became president of The Portland Gold Mining
Company, one of the greatest gold producers in the entire Cripple Creek
District.
John T. Hawkins was a
noted Colorado Springs promoter of Cripple Creek gold mines.
