United States Geological Survey Folio 9, Library Edition.  Engraved and Printed by the U.S. Geological Survey, 1894.  Bailey Willis, editor of  Geologic Maps.  S.J. Kubel, Chief Engineer.  Department of the Interior.  This folio is in its original stiff wrappers with original black cloth binding; 10 pages of text; 9 sheets; complete.  Dimensions: 18-1/2 inches wide by 21-3/4 inches in height.  "Description of the Elk Mountains was written by Samuel Franklin Emmons, Geologist in Charge, July 1894.  There are also the following: "Description of the Igneous Formation" and "Description of the Sedimentary Formation."  Sheets included: Topography (2); Areal Geology (2); Economic Geology (2); Structure Sections (2); and, Columnar Section.  All of the maps in this publication are highly detailed, professionally drawn, and beautifully printed.  Condition: very good plus to near fine.

THE SHEEP MOUNTAIN TUNNEL AND MINING COMPANY, 1895

Issued May 25, 1895, uncancelled.  Condition of certificate: near fine; usual two folds.  Corporate seal was affixed in Aspen; however, mining office was located in Crystal, Gunnison County, Colorado.  Company mined gold, silver, lead, and copper through tunnel operation. (Reference: Page 205, The Mining Directory and Reference Book of the United States, Canada and Mexico, 1892, published by the Poole Bros., Chicago.)

 

 

Tomichi Mining District

THE MAY-MAZEPPA CONSOLIDATED MINING & MILLING COMPANY

Stock certificate, issued April 16, 1892.  Stated on certificate: "Location of Mines: Tomichi District, Gunnison Co., Colorado."  Condition: near fine; no folds; however, two small punch-holes in left margin.  Small-sized certificate.  One of the Tomichi District's best mineral producers.

Nelson, Pitkin, Gunnison County, Colorado, 1916.  Printed by The Union Printing & Publishing Co., Denver, Colorado.  Book is in its original blue-printed gray wrappers; 94 pages; plus, foldout map of Gunnison County, located inside front cover.  This book is filled with half-tone photographs, articles on mining, ranching, and daily life, business advertising, and much more.  It details all sorts of aspects of life in Gunnison County, from the major industry of mining, to schools, churches, transportation, recreation, private homes, and businesses.  Condition: very good plus to near fine; some light rust staining from binding staples -- no impact on pages and information.  Map is in near fine condition with original folds.

THE RUBY SILVER MINING AND SMELTING COMPANY

OF GUNNISON CO., COLORADO, 1881

Stock certificate, issued 1881, uncancelled.  Condition: near fine; usual two folds.  Engraved and printed by the American Bank Note Company, New York.   According to the 1883 Colorado Mining Directory (compiled by Corregan and Lingane), this Company owned the Sylvanite Lode near Copper Creek, in the Elk Mountain Mining District, 7 -1/2 miles from Gothic (Page 354).

Stock certificate issued 1896, uncancelled; several folds, otherwise in near fine condition.  Stated on certificate: "Crystal, Colorado."  Owned mining property near the Sheep Mountain Tunnel Company.

 

 

Mining near Pitkin, Gunnison County, Colorado

THE SACRAMENTO CONSOLIDATED MINING COMPANY, 1891

Stock certificate issued February 19, 1891, uncancelled; several folds, otherwise in near fine condition.  According to The Mining Directory and Reference Book of the United States, Canada and Mexico, 1892, published by the Poole Bros., Chicago, this Company owned mining property in the Quartz Creek Mining District, near Pitkin, Gunnison County, Colorado.

 

 

SIDNEY MINING COMPANY OF GUNNISON COUNTY, COLORADO, 1881

Stock certificate issued January 24, 1881, uncancelled; lightly aged, otherwise in very good plus condition; no folds.  Printed by Acres, Blackmar & Company, Burlington, Iowa.
