United States Geological Survey Folio 9, Library Edition. Engraved and Printed by the U.S. Geological Survey, 1894. Bailey Willis, editor of Geologic Maps. S.J. Kubel, Chief Engineer. Department of the Interior. This folio is in its original stiff wrappers with original black cloth binding; 10 pages of text; 9 sheets; complete. Dimensions: 18-1/2 inches wide by 21-3/4 inches in height. "Description of the Elk Mountains was written by Samuel Franklin Emmons, Geologist in Charge, July 1894. There are also the following: "Description of the Igneous Formation" and "Description of the Sedimentary Formation." Sheets included: Topography (2); Areal Geology (2); Economic Geology (2); Structure Sections (2); and, Columnar Section. Condition: very good plus to near fine. This is a properly de-acquisitioned library copy with very few library marks. {This is the only significant United States Geological Survey publication on the Crested Butte area} _______________________________________________________ Mining certificate issued on Company that built the now famous Crystal Mill THE SHEEP MOUNTAIN TUNNEL AND MINING COMPANY Issued May 25, 1895, uncancelled. Condition of certificate: near fine; usual two folds. Corporate seal was affixed in Aspen; however, mining office was located in Crystal, Gunnison County, Colorado. Company mined gold, silver, lead, and copper through tunnel operation. This book is filled with half-tone photographs, articles on mining, ranching, and daily life, business advertising, and much more. It details all sorts of aspects of life in Gunnison County, from the major industry of mining, to schools, churches, transportation, recreation, private homes, and businesses.
