"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." from The Great Gatsby, 1925, by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

MT. GOTHIC TOMES AND RELIQUARY is an intriguing mixture of Rare Books, Western Americana, First Edition Literature.  We have been in the business of "re-discovering" scarce Western Americana and First Edition Literature for over twenty-six years.  During that time, we have taken pride in helping public institutions and private collectors alike improve and expand their specialized archives.  We can do the same for you.

We are always interested in purchasing excellent books, F. Scott Fitzgerald first editions, literary and scientific first editions; maps, original photographs, documents and Western Americana.  We are also willing to travel, so do not hesitate contacting us first.  Superb items are always worth the effort.

Copper Mines, Copper Statistics, Copper Shares and A Summary of Information on Copper, etc.  By D. Houston & Co., Metal Brokers, New York.  Volume 2, D. Houston & Co., New York, December 1899.  Press of The J.W. Pratt Co., New York.  Original red cloth binding, gold print on front cover and spine; 398 pages; original endpapers.  Gold leaf on page edges.  Enamel-coated paper.  Numerous illustrations.  "Since the publication of the first 'Copper Manual' in December, 1897, a new epoch has commenced in the history of copper in all its ramifications.  This industry has become one of the greatest and most important in existence ... Recently very many new copper properties have been projected, and some old ones which were closed down and idle for years have been resuscitated again.  The discovery and development of new copper mining properties has gone at a rapid rate ...."  A completely new edition of this series, expanded with new details, photographs, mining companies, advertisements, articles, etc.  Condition: near fine; the only aspect that makes this book less than fine is a light mottling on the red cloth in the gutter on the back cover.  Cloth and pages bright and clean; spine strong, almost unused.

COPPER MANUAL

Copper Manual 1904.jpg (22640 bytes)

Copper Mines, Copper Statistics, Copper Shares and A Summary of Information on Copper, etc.  By D. Houston & Co., Metal Brokers, New York.  Volume Number 3, D. Houston & Co., New York, December 1904.  Press of The J.W. Pratt Co., New York.  Original red cloth binding, gold print on front cover and spine; 474 pages; original endpapers.  Gold leaf on page edges.  Enamel-coated paper.  Numerous illustrations.  From Preface: "The remarkable progress made in the development of copper mining during recent years marks an era of wonderful expansion and success in this department of productive industry.  The great copper fields of this country are now furnishing the world with more than 50 per cent of the globe's copper supplies, and the technical and economic sides of mining have been more thoroughly mastered than ever before.  The wonderful mineral wealth of the United States is one of the greatest factors in its material prosperity, and no one can study the operations at American copper mines without being impressed with their great value and importance to the nation ...."  A completely new edition of this series, expanded with new details, photographs, mining companies, advertisements, articles, etc.  Condition: very fine; cloth and pages bright and clean; spine strong, almost unused.

COPPER MANUAL 1906

Copper 1906.jpg (35181 bytes)

Copper Mines, Copper Statistics, Copper Shares and A Reference Book on the leading Copper Properties.  By D. Houston & Co., New York, April 1906.  Volume 4, Press of The J.W. Pratt Co., New York.  Original green cloth binding, gold print on front cover; 164 pages; original endpapers; no illustrations.  From Preface: "This book aims to deal with the principal copper companies and producers, specially those of the United States.  There has been no attempt to ferret out and describe every one of the numerous concerns pretending to possess the merits of an actual copper mine by adopting a high sounding title, but which have given no demonstration of becoming either immediate or prospective producers of importance ... This work contains data from the latest official reports, and in addition thereto, other valuable information right up to April, 1906.  The descriptive articles and other matter in this volume have been arranged in condensed form, so that the reader may find the salient features of the different properties succinctly stated ... American Copper production has increased from 60,480,000 pounds in 1880, to about 900,000,000 pounds in 1905 ...."  This publication appears to be the last in the COPPER MANUAL series; however, few, if any, library sources have this book in their catalogue.  Condition: very fine; strong, almost unused binding.

(Please note: the four volumes of the COPPER MANUAL listed above are sold as a set only.)
